Pet friendly cottage Cumbria. Great for families, near the Lakes, Hadrian's wall, Carlisle.
Isaac's Byre is a 16th century former bastle house which now provides excellent open plan living space combined with three bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms. The cottage has the convenience of a ground floor bedroom and bathroom and just three shallow steps to the living room. The kitchen has a huge range cooker. You can cook up a fine meal on the range. Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the cottage has the advantage of a living room which has picturesque views over open countryside and the South Tyne valley. You could spend hours watching the birds in the garden and just looking at the views. There are walks from the doorstep and for keen cyclists, lots of cycle routes starting from the house. For those who aren't such keen cyclists electric bikes can be hired nearby. Our local golf club is just 2-3 miles away and is quite challenging. It is nine hole or you can play twice to make it an 18 hole. We do have golf clubs we can loan if needed. Just 1.5 miles from the cottage is Ashgill Force. You can walk there over the fields from the cottage. It is a magical place, a waterfall you can walk behind and some amazing photographs can be taken there. The Pennine way goes through Garrigill, just 1/4 mile away and walks can be taken along it's route to Alston or to the top of Cross Fell. Another good walk is to the source of the Tyne. Alston is 4.5 miles away and has some small interesting shops, quirky cobbled lanes to explore behind the main street. There is a butcher, a baker, and a candlestick maker in Alston. All are award winning. The local pubs are all welcoming and accept dogs, the pubs and the hotels serve a wide variety of meals from budget to taster menus.Less

We spent a truly brilliant Christmas here at Isaac's Byre and would highly recommend this lovely cottage. It has everything you could need and accommodates six people perfectly. We especially liked the three bathrooms.
The owners are very friendly, live next door and the welcome was lovely. The cottage is lovely and warm, the log burner is great. Thanks for the yummy mince pies! we would love to return as we did a number of cold, muddy, soggy but gorgeous walks nearby but know there is so much more to do in this beautiful area. will return during warmer months for better walking.
